The Neurology Day Unit at the Royal Victoria Infirmary has accommodation for patients attending for treatments and investigations without the need for overnight admission.
There are several consulting rooms that are used for clinics which are run here every day. These include emergency clinics for general neurological conditions.
Several specialist nurses are available for advice and support for conditions affecting the brain and nervous system, including:
- Multiple Sclerosis
- Epilepsy
- Mitochondrial Disorders
- Parkinsons Disease
- Motor Neurone Disease

The Neurology Day Unit is based in Leazes Wing at the Royal Victoria Infirmary. To find us:
- Come through the Leazes Wing Outpatient Department entrance.
- Follow the corridor in front of you walking past the Outpatient Department reception desk on your right.
- Follow the signs for the Neurology Day Unit which is situated opposite the Endoscopy Suite.
Staff you are likely to meet
The Neurology Day Unit is led by Sister Bernie Chapman. The clinical team is made up of consultant neurologists, specialist nurses, physiotherapists, occupational therapists and other support staff.
Things you need to know
- Should you require an ambulance to provide return transport we ask that you arrange this via your GP at least 48 hours prior to your appointment.
- Nursing staff are available for information regarding appointments for investigations and treatments between 8:00am and 5:00pm.
- If you wish to speak to a particular consultant please ask the nurse in charge or contact the consultant’s secretary via the hospital switchboard to arrange an appointment.
