Newcastle Eye Centre

Opticians Department

Our Opticians (Optometrists) undertake a wide range of clinics to support our medical teams to provide care for our patients. These range from testing vision to assessing patients after their eye operations.

Our services

Our wide range of services includes:

  • Refraction: a sight test to determine the best spectacle prescription and vision
  • Contact lens fitting: a wide range of contact lenses when these are clinically required
  • Low Vision Assessments: a range of Low Vision aids are available and supplied on loan from the hospital.
  • Glaucoma assessments.
  • Yag Capsulotomy: a procedure to remove a very thin membrane called the Capsule after cataract surgery.
  • Dispensing: a specialist spectacle dispensing service for patients who can’t be fitted with ready-made frames
  • Eye tests for members of the public/staff.

As well as helping to provide sight-tests for hospital patients, an on-site contractor (C4 Sightcare) provides a sight test service for people who are not hospital patients.
