Genital skin problems
I went to school in Newcastle and trained at UCH London Medical School. I trained in London and Newcastle and did research at the Royal Postgraduate Medical School, London. I obtained a Consultant Dermatology post at Sunderland Royal Infirmary then moved to Newcastle in 1994.
I am Clinical Director for Plastic Surgery, Ophthalmology and Dermatology.
I am Assistant Secretary of the British Association of Dermatologists and on the committee of the British Society for the study of Vulvovaginal disease.

My early training as an SHO was undertaken in Southampton while my registrar training took place in Nottingham. While in Nottingham, I undertook research into ocular angiogenesis with particular relevance to age related macular degeneration and diabetes. I subsequently trained at Moorfields Eye Hospital as a medical retina fellow.

Margaret Dayan is a Consultant Ophthalmologist and Honorary Lecturer. She graduated from Oxford and trained in Leeds and around the Northern Region before undertaking a fellowship in Neuro-ophthalmology and motility in Oxford and spending time at Johns Hopkins, Baltimore. Her subspecialist interests are Neuro-ophthalmology and Adult Ocular Motility and she runs the departmental Botulinum Toxin service which takes referrals from all over the region. She also works closely with the Regional Neurorehabilitation service and sees patients with visual impairment (including higher cognitive visual dysfunction) secondary to brain injuries. She established and convenes the Newcastle Course on Orbital and Neuro-Imaging for Ophthalmology which has attendees from all over the UK. She teaches ophthalmology, neurology and medicine specialty trainees and medical students and is an educational supervisor, mentor and appraiser.

My undergraduate training was in Nottingham. Following qualification in 1994 I had a broad exposure to general medicine, neurosurgery, and acute medicine, including working in South Africa . I subsequently did my post graduate ophthalmic training in Nottingham and Birmingham before doing a Fellowship at Moorfields Eye hospital, London. I joined the RVI eye department in 2008. My interests include diabetic retinopathy and vascular disorders as well as age related macular degeneration. I also have a keen interest in teaching trainees and having a role in research.

I began my training as a Paediatrician and changed specialisations to train as an Ophthalmologist with a special interest in Children s eye conditions, and inherited eye problems.

James Talks has been a consultant ophthalmologist at the Royal Victoria Hospital Newcastle upon Tyne since 2000. He trained in Birmingham, Oxford and at Moorfields. He is the lead for the medical retina service. The unit was an early provider of PDT, covering the whole of the North East, and then ranibizumab for AMD, ahead of NICE, and is one of the largest providers in the Country. He has clinical research interests in macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy and imaging. He is a member of Council for the Oxford Congress and regularly runs an imaging course at the Royal College of Ophthalmologists annual congress.
