Eye Casualty is based in the Ophthalmology Outpatient Department. All patients are encouraged to see their GP in the first instance who will refer you to our Eye Casualty or to A&E if felt appropriate. You can self refer to be seen here if your eye condition or injury is urgent however please check our opening hours, and if we are closed then please attend A&E.
On arrival you will be assessed by a member of our nursing staff and then seen by either a doctor, optician or another nurse, dependent upon your condition.

If you have an eye injury or problem and need to be seen outside of these times please go to the Accident and Emergency Department at the Newcastle General Hospital where you will be assessed by a member of the staff there.
The clinic team is led by Sister Hope and is made up of doctors, nurses, opticians, orthoptists, medical photographers, visual field technicians, nursery nurses and other support staff.
All the consultants in the department have highly skilled doctors working with them. Although your appointment is with a named consultant you may be seen by a member of their team although your consultant will be closely monitoring your care.
