All the consultants in the department have highly skilled doctors working with them.  Although your appointment is with a named consultant you may be seen by a member of their team although your consultant will be closely monitoring your care.

Things you need to know

  • On your first visit please bring all spectacles you currently use.
  • For follow up appointments, please bring your eyedrops or ointment with you.  If you are on medication it would be useful to bring a list of these with you or bring them along in their original containers.
  • If you need medication there is a pharmacy department in the Eye Outpatients Department.
  • You may need to have drops put in your eyes during your clinic visit which may blur your vision temporarily and impair your ability to drive.  You should therefore consider alternative means of transport for your return journey home.
  • Clinics may also be available nearer to where you live - ask for more information when you visit the clinic
  • Outpatient clinics provide valuable training opportunities for medical students.  You may be asked if you would happy for students to be present during your consultation and to carry out an examination.
