Patient quote

“To all the lovely nurses who took care of me during my stay in Ward 20, I would just like to say a very big heartfelt ‘Thank you’ for taking care of me and for all the reassurance you gave me, words cannot describe just how much this means to me as you know how terrified I was.  You all do such a wonderful job and I just wanted you to know how much I appreciated it.”

Ophthalmology (Eye Department)

Ward 20 RVI

Contact: (0191) 282 5420 - Sister J Mulroy

Ward 20 is an ophthalmology ward for both adults and children who require eye surgery. The staff on Ward 20 also provide care for a small number of patients who are having other types of more general surgery.

The main ward area is for our adult patients. There is also a  secure children’s unit on the ward, where you will need to buzz on the intercom for access.

The children’s unit has a dedicated play area and is staffed by specially trained paediatric and nursery nurses so that all children who stay with us are made to feel as safe and as comfortable as possible.
