About Newcastle Pharmacy
The Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has established pharmacy departments at the Freeman Hospital, the Royal Victoria Infirmary and also a Clinical Trials Pharmacy at the Northern Centre for Cancer Care.
Newcastle Pharmacy departments include Out-patient dispensaries, In-patient dispensing facilities, Clinical, Operational and Medicines Information support services, providing pharmaceutical services direct to patients and staff.
To add to this, there are also dispensing and production units offering highly specialised treatments such as cytotoxic chemotherapy for patients undergoing cancer treatment; aseptic products such as Parenteral Nutrition infusion bags for patients with special nutritional needs; and manufactured unlicensed medicines (‘specials’) – necessary where suitable licensed products are not available.
Our pharmacy teams are made up of highly skilled healthcare professionals and support staff, experienced in their field of pharmacy practice. We work closely together as a department, and with other clinical services throughout our hospitals.
Some services are also made available to other healthcare organisations, providing patients of other hospitals with access to our high quality facilities and expertise, and an additional revenue stream for the Newcastle Hospitals.
