Ward 37 (also known as the Burns Unit) is an adult ward which provides care for men and women requiring reconstructive surgery and other types of treatment for injuries resulting from burns.

There are single and double cubicles on this ward which all have en suite facilities.  Single cubicles are usually for patients who have extensive burns and require special monitoring and nursing care.

The Burns Unit is a securely locked ward to ensure patient safety and privacy. 


Ward Philosophy

Our philosophy is that the individual with a burn injury, and their family, have the right to be cared for by a specialist team of committed and experienced staff, utilising contemporary research and knowledge based skills.

We will endeavour to create an environment of health and well being enabling the individual to regain a fulfilled place in society.

How to find us

Ward 37 (Burns Unit) is based on Level 5 of Leazes Wing at the Royal Victoria Infirmary.  To find us:

  • Come through the Leazes Wing main entrance and walk past the main reception desk on your left.
  • Turn left, past the shop and take the lift or stairs up to the fifth floor. 
  • Come out the lifts or stairs and turn to your left, following the signs for Ward 37 (Burns Unit).

Staff you might meet

Our uniforms are different to those on other wards and our staff all wear light blue trouser suits, apart from the senior nurses who wear dark blue trouser suits.

Things you need to know

  • The Burns Unit is a securely locked ward to ensure patient safety and privacy.  Please use the intercom system at the entrance so that a member of staff can let you in.
  •  Please don't bring fresh flowers onto the ward.  This is to help to with control of infection.
