Medical Insurance
If you are using medical insurance to pay for your treatment or procedure, then you need to liaise closely with your insurance provider throughout the course of your treatment. You should be aware of the Terms and Conditions of your policy and let us know if there are any limitations applicable to your policy. You should ensure you have adequate cover before you commit to having the procedure.
If we have the insurance details we will seek authorisation on your behalf, however ultimately the responsibility for ensuring adequate cover lies with yourself.
If your insurer requires a claim form, please ensure that it has been completed and signed by the relevant clinicians.
We have an arrangement with many insurance companies which enables us to send your invoice direct to them. However, at the end of your stay, you may be presented with an invoice for treatment, which together with any consultant bills should be forwarded to your insurance company. If you do not have all your insurance details or authorisation you will be required to pay a deposit equal to the cost of your treatment before admission.
Going into hospital can be worrying prospect at the best of times, but if you are paying for yourself, your anxieties can be increased if you are unsure about how much your treatment is going to cost.
We make it even easier for patients to access the exceptional quality of care provided Newcastle Upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust with self pay packages.
A self pay package gives patients peace of mind by knowing in advance exactly how much treatment will cost. All self pay packages include surgery, prosthesis, nursing care, accommodation, patient meals, in-patient physiotherapy, medication while in hospital, plus 3 days take home medication, removal of stitches (if required).
Our staff will be able to give patients a ‘guide’ price even if they haven’t seen a consultant, but a referral letter from your GP will be required before an appointment with a consultant can be arranged ( the exception is Cosmetic Surgery) . For further information please contact the Business Office on 0191 282 0592 or 282 0593
Newcastle Upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust offers a number of procedures (for variety of specialties including, Cardiology, Orthopaedics, Ophthalmology, Cosmetic Surgery, Urology and Neurosurgery) under the fixed cost scheme. Treatment under fixed cost may be dependent to pre-assessment.
If you decide to go ahead with treatment under this scheme, we then ask you to let us have payment before admission. We accept most leading credit cards (apart from American Express and Diners), debt cards or cash. Payment by personal cheque will be by prior arrangement and requires 10 working days to clear.
Fixed Cost is offered at the discretion of the hospital and may not be available in all instances. If we are not able to offer you a fixed cost package, the hospital will generally be able to offer you an alternative Self Pay option.
Costs for any extras, such as telephone calls, additional newspapers and magazines, visitors’ meals etc. will be invoiced and must be paid upon leaving the hospital. We will be only too glad to answer any questions you may have, and to assist you in all aspects of the financial side of your treatment.
