Within the radiology department on level three of the New Victoria Wing there is a dedicated children’s department. The department has been designed to be child friendly with brightly coloured pictures on the walls and a waiting area with toys, books, and a DVD and games station, to keep children amused while they wait for their examinations. There is a digital plain film room, which also has specialist equipment for spine scoliosis imaging, an ultrasound scan room and a fluoroscopy room where examinations such as micturating cystograms, barium studies, and video flouroscopies are carried out. The department serves inpatients, outpatients and patients referred from General Practitioners.

During busy times children may be x-rayed elsewhere in the main department to reduce waiting times and adults are also sometimes x-rayed within the children’s department. Children who have been seen in Accident and Emergency will have their x-rays taken in the rooms assigned to that department. All of our staff are experienced in the imaging of children and we also have a specialized paediatric team who would be happy to answer any queries in relation to your visit to the department.
