Occupational Therapy

Contact: (0191) 223 1320 - Andrea Hepburn, Rehabilitation Manager

Our Occupational Therapists treat patients referred to our care with many different types of conditions, for example:

  • people suffering from a physical condition, for example, stroke or heart disease
  • people recovering from operations or other hospital treatments such as hip replacements or burns
  • physically disabled people, ie. wheelchair users or people who have suffered head injuries

Each patient’s abilities to perform various activities are assessed and individual treatment regimes developed to improve capabilities and tackle any problems that are identified.

Sometimes this involves the use of equipment or adaptations to the patient’s home to help with daily living such as washing, dressing, cooking and cleaning, or just getting around. This is particularly important for some of our more vulnerable and elderly patients who need extra support  following an episode of intensive care in hospital.

Helping you find easy solutions to everyday problems

Because of the strong person-centred approach our Occupational Therapists are able to adopt an innovate and holistic care approach for each of our patients, helping them to adapt to normal, every day aspects of their life regaining independence, confidence and control.

You can be referred to our service by your hospital doctor - ask the staff looking after you for more information.
