The Renal Clinical Investigation Unit provides an outpatient service led by Specialist Nurse Practitioners who provide a wide range of care and support for patients with kidney disorders.
You may be seen in the RCIU for many reasons including blood tests, treatment, education, support and guidance. You will also be seen there regularly in the early weeks following a kidney transplant to closely monitor your progress and to make sure your new kidney is working well.
We run a comprehensive ‘pre-dialysis’ education programme. A personalised education portofolio has been developed to help you to understand all about your condition, and to be prepared for what to expect in terms of treatment and medication options. It also gives advice on nutrition and diet and how to maintain a healthy and fulfilling lifestyle.
