Richard Charnley, Consultant Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Surgeon

Richard Charnley was appointed to the Freeman Hospital in 1995 and has developed a particular interest in the surgical and endoscopic management of pancreatic disease for which he has a national reputation. He also has a particular interest in the development of hospital services for patients with pancreatic and hepatobiliary disease and has been invited to help develop services in other parts of the UK and abroad. 

Mr Charnley's research interests include new treatments for pancreatitis, the genetics of pancreatic disease and the causes of pancreatic cancer, and he was President of the Pancreatic Society of Great Britain and Ireland in 2006-07.

Mr Jeremy Jules French, Consultant Hepato-pancreato-biliary and Transplant Surgeon

Mr Jeremy French was appointed to the Freeman Hospital and joined the team in January 2008. 

He trained in Newcastle and Leeds and his research interests are acute pancreatitis and pancreatic cancer.

Mr French is active in the field of surgical education and particular clinical interests are minimally invasive HPB surgery (such as percuatneous pancreatic necrosectomy and laparoscopic hepatic/pancreatic resection), acute pancreatitis, and retroperitoneal sarcoma.

Mr Steve White, Consultant Hepato-pancreato-biliary and Transplant Surgeon

Mr Steve White was appointed at the Freeman Hospital in April 2006. He trained in the Leeds Liver Unit and was the Moynihan Travel Fellow of the Association of Surgeons of GB at the Mayo Clinic and The Memorial Sloane Kettering Cancer Centre in the USA.

Mr White has interests in all aspects of liver and pancreas surgery including cancer surgery and transplantation. He has a particular interest in advanced laparoscopic surgery of the gallbladder, liver and pancreas and living donor liver transplantation.
