Ward 45 is a general surgical ward which has four different areas:
This is a nurse led clinic where we see a variety of patients waiting for general, plastic and gynaecological surgery.
The nursing staff will carry out tests such as blood tests, and ECGs (tracing of the heart). The length of time of your assessment will vary depending on the type of operation that is proposed and the tests you require.
Information about surgery and anaesthetic will be given at this time and we will answer any questions you may have. It is unlikely that you will be given a date for your surgery at this appointment, unless it has been given to you by your surgeon. You will be placed on a waiting list.
This area provides care for people requiring treatment for gynaecological problems and for patients needing plastic and general surgery. The patients are admitted on the day of their surgery to the ward, however after surgery they will return to a different ward for their post operative care.
This area provides care for patients requiring plastic and general surgery.
This is a 5 day general surgical ward which provides care for people requiring treatment for a range of surgical procedures who will need to stay in hospital between one and five days. The short stay surgery ward is open from Monday to Friday between 7am - 6pm.
Ward 45 is is on Level 3 of Leazes Wing at the Royal Victoria Infirmary. To find us:
