Ward 6 Freeman Hospital

Ward 6 is a general surgical ward, which provides care for people requiring treatment for a range of conditions in need of surgical procedures who only need to stay in hospital for one to five days.

Ward 6 is open Monday to Friday and closes for the weekend at 8.00pm.

If you need to find where a patient has been moved to, and the ward is closed, please contact admissions enquiries on (0191) 213 7200 or contact the hospital switchboard on (0191) 233 6161.

Ward 6 is based on the fourth floor at the Freeman Hospital. To find us:

  • Come through the Main Entrance and follow the main corridor, passing the shop and hairdressers until you reach the end
  • Turn left and take the lift or stairs to level 4 and follow the sign for Ward 6.

The clinical team on Ward 6 is led by Sister McDonald and includes surgeons, specialist nurses, ward nurses, and other support staff.

Things you need to know

 
  • If your relative requires high dependency care following their operation, wherever possible, please collect property and valuables on day of surgery from the ward as there are limited storage facilities available.
  • Please do not bring fresh flowers onto the ward. This is to help with infection control.
