Jargon buster

prostate

A gland found in men surrounding the urethra (tube which carries urine from the bladder to the penis). The gland makes a thick white fluid which mixes with sperm to make semen.

Prostate Cancer Service

The Prostate Cancer Screening Clinic is a fast track clinic for men who may be showing signs of prostate cancer - this means that men will be seen within two weeks of referral to our care.

The clinic takes place at the Freeman Hospital's Urology Investigation Suite.

  • the tests you can expect, including: a blood PSA test (prostate specific antigen), rectal examinations, biopsies, and a special x-ray called a Trans-rectal Ultrasound (TRUS)
