Waugh, Dr Jason

Jason trained in maternal medicine in Sheffield, New Zealand and Leicester before working as a consultant in Leicester for 5 years. He is now lead consultant for maternal medicine in Newcastle upon Tyne and has established maternal medicine training programmes for obstetricians in both cities.  He has developed the model within NUTH of Specialist clinics for Medical Disorders in Pregnancy allowing women to be seen jointly by an obstetrician and specialist physician at the same visit. The maternal medicine teams philosophy is to provide a seamless transition from pre-pregnancy advice through to postnatal care for all women with pre-existing diseases or who have had pregnancy complications in the past.

As well as publishing books on Maternal Medicine for Midwives his current research interests are hypertension in pregnancy and renal and cardiovascular disease in pregnancy. As well as running funded research projects in this area he has published extensively in these fields and produced national guidelines for the management of pre-eclampsia and renal disease.

He is currently president of the Macdonald UK Obstetric Medicine Society, represents Maternal Medicine on the British Maternal and Fetal Medicine Society and is a clinical expert for the charity Action on Pre-eclampsia (APEC).
