  • Biography

Mr Ragbir was born in Trinidad and attended medical school at the University of the West Indies in Kingston, Jamaica. He began his surgical training in Trinidad and subsequently trained in multiple UK plastic surgery departments including Swansea, Exeter and Newcastle-upon-Tyne. He took up his current consultant post in Newcastle Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in 2006 following working as a Consultant in the Caribbean.

His NHS practice has been tailored to looking after patients requiring the highest level of reconstructive expertise. The majority of his current work is with Head and Neck Reconstruction and Sarcoma (Bone and Soft Tissue Cancers) excision and reconstruction, for which his work is internationally recognised. He is widely published in all areas including reconstruction following sarcoma excision. This level of plastic surgical reconstruction demands a high level of skill and familiarity with operating in all areas of the body.

He is currently the lead clinician for the Bone and Soft Tissue Tumour Service for the North of England, which sees patients referred with rare tumours from across the northern region.

He takes an active role in the wider world of plastic surgery and education, both locally and nationally. He has been training Programme Director for Plastic Surgery Training in the North East for a period of 8 years and his contribution to maintaining high standards of training was recognised when he was made chair of the Specialist Advisory Committee for UK plastic surgery in 2018. He is a regular examiner for the plastic surgery consultant examinations and is in charge of national selection for Plastic Surgical training in the UK.
