I qualified in Medicine at the University of Nottingham Medical School. I undertook postgraduate training as a junior doctor as part of the Manchester medical rotation. I worked as a Specialist Registrar on the Northern Deanery (Newcastle) Gastroenterology rotation and am now dual certified in Gastroenterology and General Internal Medicine. I am a certified endoscopist with full JAG accreditation.
I am a Consultant Physician and Gastroenterologist based primarily at the Royal Victoria Infirmary. I am the Clinical Lead for the Assessment Suite, which is a new state of the art facility, receiving and treating acutely unwell patients from the Emergency Department and from General Practice. I also lead the RVI Nutrition Team and am part of the Inflammatory Bowel Disease Team within our tertiary centre. I am an investigator in several multi-centre trials aimed at providing better and more effective treatments for patients with inflammatory bowel disease.
I am also interested in medical education and am an Associate Lecturer with the University of Newcastle, teaching and tutoring undergraduate, as well as postgraduate students.
