  • Biography

I qualified from Cambridge University in 1988 and completed postgraduate training mainly in London, spending a year in The Netherlands on exchange.  I was appointed as a Consultant to NuTH in 1999 and also hold the post of Senior Lecturer at Newcastle University’s Institute for Genetic Medicine.

I am a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and a Member of the British, European and American Endocrine Societies, and also have strong links with a number of patient support groups.  I remain very active in medical research and have authored some 80 publications, along with a prize-winning doctoral (MD) thesis.

I am fortunate to work with a group of colleagues in the Newcastle Endocrine Unit who are also internationally-recognised experts and find myself constantly learning new things from my regular interactions with them.”

I speak Italian and French fluently and am also reasonably coherent in German and Dutch.  I am married to a Consultant Radiologist and have three young children.
