  • Biography

I graduated in 1992 from Newcastle upon Tyne Medical School after school and childhood in Cramlington.

My specialist training in geriatrics and general medicine was in the North of England, New Zealand and Sydney, Australia, where I developed the first falls and syncope service for Western Sydney.

Research – PhD awarded in May 2006 on falls in older people. I remain involved in clinical research in this field and have developed collaborative working partnerships with the ambulance services and social services in Newcastle to help reduce falls.

I was appointed as a consultant in 2005 and divide my clinical time between Falls and Syncope Service clinics at the Royal Victoria Infirmary, and acute and rehabilitation care for older people at the Freeman Hospital.

I have additional interests and responsibilities in medical education and was appointed in 2010 as Assistant Director of Medical Education for the Newcastle Upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Trust.
