  • Biography

I work in the Northern Centre for Bone Marrow Transplantation and hold a Wellcome Intermediate Fellowship (2013-2018) for research. I completed a degree in Natural Sciences at Cambridge before turning to medicine, studying again in Cambridge and at University College London.  I undertook my specialist haematology training in Newcastle, where I have remained ever since. I was appointed as a consultant in 2011.
In the research laboratory I study how dendritic cells, important regulators of the immune system, are formed from the bone marrow and how this can go wrong in bone marrow diseases or as a result of faulty genes. Previous research has been funded by BrightRed, The George Walker Trust, The BSH and the MRC.
