Adjustment and coping, improving quality of life. Palliative care for patients with unknown primary cancers

  • Biography

Trained at the University of Aberdeen, I initially trained as a GP, but found Palliative Medicine more interesting, and trained as a registrar in the Northern Region.  During training, I completed a Diploma in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and a Certificate in Medical Education. I worked as a consultant in Gateshead for 9 years, but was very happy to move to the excellent Palliative Care Team at NCCC in October 2011.  I work four days a week, seeing patients on the wards and in clinics, taking part in our weekly multidisciplinary team meeting, and leading a CBT clinic at St Oswald’s Hospice.
I enjoy teaching students and staff about Palliative Medicine and CBT.  I am an educational supervisor for trainees and a member of the local Specialty Training Committee.
I am a member of the Association for Palliative Medicine.
