  • Biography

I qualified in 1980 in India and started work in England in 1984.  From 1984 to 1988 I completed my general professional training in Manchester.  I subsequently moved to Newcastle in 1988 to complete my specialist training in Emergency Medicine. During my training I spent 3 months as a Senior Registrar in Trauma Centres in Toronto, Canada including the Sunnybrook Trauma Centre.

I was subsequently appointed as a Consultant in Emergency Medicine at the Royal Victoria Infirmary in June 1993 and as Head of Department in 1994.  I relinquished this post when I became Clinical Director of Medicine in 2011.  My primary areas of responsibility are Major Trauma, Emergency Medicine and Acute Medicine.  In April 2015 I was appointed as Associate Medical Director, RVI.

I have published in peer reviewed journals on topics commonly encountered in my day to day practise in Emergency Medicine.

I continue to practise as a full time clinician and enjoy working in the Emergency Department, RVI which is a Level 1 Major Trauma Centre.  My vision is to continue developing the Major Trauma Centre and to develop integrated pathways for acute time critical emergencies such as strokes, haemorrhage and acute coronary syndromes.
