  • Biography

I have worked in the field of lung transplantation for 14 years. I am involved in the careful assessment of patients with severe lung disease to determine their suitability to undergo lung transplantation. I am also involved in all aspects of the care of patients that have undergone lung transplantation including early care in the intensive care unit immediately after transplant surgery, in hospital in the early weeks and in outpatients for long term post transplant care.

I lead a research team in laboratories based at Newcastle University which investigates way to improve the num ber and success of lung transplants.

I play a national and international role in educating health care professionals in the care of patients before and after lung transplant. I run a national course in the UK on behalf of the British Thoracic Society (BTS) and an international course on behalf of the European Respiratory Society (ERS). I currently serve as chair of the ERS Lung Transplant Assembly 2010-2013. I am also current Chair of the Education Committee of the International Society of Heart and Lung Transplantation.
