  • Biography

    Dr Whittaker studied medicine at Cambridge University before moving to the Institute of Molecular Medicine in Oxford. He completed his specialist training in Clinical Neurophysiology in Newcastle and Edinburgh, before returning to Newcastle to complete his PhD in cortical network dynamics. He now holds a Clinical Senior Lecturer post in the Institute of Neuroscience, Newcastle University, and an Honorary Consultant post in the department of Clinical Neurophysiology in the RVI.

    His clinical and research interests are in the pathophysiology of mitochondrial disease, the development of novel optogenetic approaches to the treatment of focal epilepsies, and in developing new electromyography techniques.
