  • Biography

I completed clinical training in neurology in Budapest, Hungary and started clinical research in mitochondrial disease in 1995. I had been working in diagnostic and research of mitochondrial disorders in Munich, Germany until 2007, when I came to Newcastle University. In 2013 I was appointed as a Professor in Neurogenetics.

    Clinical work

In January 2009 I started a clinical service for inherited peripheral neuropathies (CMT). I also see patients with other rare types of neurogenetic disease.

My current research focuses on mitochondrial disorders due to a defect in mitochondrial protein synthesis. This work is funded by the Medical Research Council (MRC) UK and the European Research Council (ERC).
