I was appointed as a consultant in 1994 after completion of training in Yorkshire. Joined the upper-GI unit in 2001. This was the first example of “hub and spoke” in upper-GI cancer service. This has worked extremely well for the benefit of patients. My job is split half and half between the RVI and South Tyneside. All cancer operations for my patients are undertaken in RVI.
I am actively involved in teaching and training and mentoring junior consultants. I also served as an examiner for FRCS and MRCS for Royal College of Surgeons.
