I completed my undergraduate training at the University of Edinburgh including an intercalated BSc degree. After junior doctor posts in Edinburgh I moved to the Northern Deanery to complete my paediatric training. I spent 3 years as a CF Trust/MRC Clinical Research Training Fellow at Newcastle University completing a PhD. Following this I finished higher specialist training in Paediatric Respiratory Medicine as an Academic Clinical Lecturer.
I am an Honorary Consultant in Paediatric Respiratory Medicine. I am also a clinical academic and currently hold a Clinician Scientist Fellowship from the MRC and am a Clinical Senior Lecturer in the Institute of Cellular Medicine, Newcastle University, where I lead a research group. Please see my university web page for full details. Our research is focused on investigating the pathogenesis of cystic fibrosis lung disease to inform the development of new treatment strategies but also encompasses other aspects of paediatric respiratory research including infection and airway physiology.
I am a member of the British Thoracic Society Standards of Care Committee and an Associate Editor for BMC Pulmonary Medicine.
Clinical interests include cystic fibrosis and cardio-pulmonary transplantation.
