The Newcastle Hospitals have robust plans in place to meet the demands of an influenza pandemic should one become apparent. The World Health Organisation (WHO) has declared we are currently on Alert level 6, which means that swine flu is now spreading in communities in several countries.

It is very important that anyone who believes they may be suffering from flu-like symptoms does NOT present to A&E unless they are very ill.
If you think you or a member of your family are suffering from flu-like symptoms, you should contact your GP directly or alternatively ring NHS Direct on 0845 46 47 and they will be able to advise you accordingly.
