Molineux Urgent Treatment Centre

Molineux Street Urgent Treatment Centre Urgentis closed to the public in April as the NHS reorganised services to manage the COVID-19 ourbreak locally.

For patients needing to attend an urgent treatment centre for non-Covid-19-related health needs, Ponteland Road Urgent Treatment Centre remains open from 8am to 10pm every day, at 169 Ponteland Road, NE5 3AE.

The Molineux Urgent Treatment Centre is a nurse-led unit for patients with minor injuries and illnesses. It is staffed by specially-trained nurse practitioners, staff nurses and healthcare assistants. 

Examples of conditions that can be treated at the Molineux Urgent Treatment Centre, include:

  • coughs and colds Molineux St Walk in centre
  • high temperatures
  • urinary tract infections
  • conjunctivitis
  • simple cuts bruises
  • foreign bodies superficially embedded in tissue
  • minor trauma and sprains to hands, limbs and feet
  • minor burns or scalds
  • emergency contraception
  • ear, nose and throat problems.

No doctors work on this unit, but they are supported by the medical staff of the RVI Emergency Department as required.

No appointment needed

You do not need an appointment at the Molineux Street Urgent Treatment Centre - just turn up and wait your turn to be treated. Your GP can also refer you here for treatment if appropriate. 

Our staff have access to many services within the hospital and community, including: the Emergency Department, medical specialties, outpatient clinics, social work teams and GP surgeries. This means that you will receive the best possible treatment and advice efficiently and effectively from the most appropriate health care professional.

Opening hours

The Molineux Street Walk-in Centre is open 8.00am to 8.00pm, seven days a week, including bank holidays.

You can also find out about the Out of hours GP service, and the Eye Emergency Department at the Royal Victoria Infirmary.

Who should go to the Walk-in Centre?

Most minor injuries and ailments can be treated at the Walk-in Centre. Patients with eye injuries should report to the Eye Emergency Department at the Royal Victoria Infirmary.

Please note the following cannot be assessed in the Walk-in Centre:

  • children under the age of two year
  • chest pain
  • shortness of breath
  • head injuries with neurological symptoms
  • back, neck, shoulder, hip or rib injuries
  • chemical injuries to the eye

Should any of the above apply to you or if urgent, please see your GP or go to the Emergency Department.
