Scleroplus pulse dye or KTP laser – After Treatment

This information sheet is intended to help you care for your skin after your laser treatment.

After treatment the affected area might be uncomfortable.

  • Paracetamol and/or cool packs may relieve any discomfort.
  • Swelling may occur if the treated area is around the eyes. Sit upright and apply a cool pack to reduce the swelling.
  • The area may weep, scab or crust. Do not attempt to remove scabs or crusts as this may lead to scarring. Cover them with a clean dry dressing especially if the area is likely to rub on your clothes.
  • The area may blister. Leave any blisters intact. If they become extensive or troublesome then telephone us for advice on the number below.

Wash the treated skin carefully twice a day and pat dry with a towel. You may use a mild soap. Immediately after cleansing, moisturise the area with the cream that you were given in the clinic. Reapply the cream as necessary throughout the day.

It is very important to avoid sun exposure on the treated area. Covering the area with a layer of clothing offers good protection. Uncovered areas must be protected using a high factor sunscreen (SPF 30 or above). Remember that sunscreen lasts only a couple of hours. Replace it after washing or swimming. If you start to develop a suntan, the cream is not giving you enough protection.

Do not apply any make-up to the treated area for 7-10 days or until all the blistering or scabbing has gone.

Sports and swimming
We advise you to avoid all contact sports and swimming for 7-10 days after treatment.
