Ward 22 RVI

Ward 22 is a major trauma and orthopaedic ward caring for adults who have traumatic injuries, including bone fractures and minor head injuries.

Our services

The ward has 32 inpatient beds, and is divided into two units: one unit for major trauma patients; the other unit for patients with traumatic hip fractures.

Some patients are admitted via the RVI’s Emergency Department or Assessment Suite, or may come to the unit after being treated in the Intensive Care Unit or High Dependency Unit.

Ward 22 is based on level four of the Claremont Wing at the RVI Hospital in Newcastle-upon-Tyne. To find us:

  • Come through the main entrance of the New Victoria Wing at the RVI
  • Take the escalator or lift to the second floor
  • Follow the signs for the Claremont Wing
  • Ward 22 is signposted when you reach the Claremont Wing

How to get to the hospital

Staff you could meet

A wide range of medical and support staff work on our ward, including: physiotherapists, occupational therapists, specialist nurses (eg head injury nurse specialist), ITU (Intensive Care) outreach teams, Pain Team, and the Orthopaedic Discharge Team. 

Medical staff from other areas of the hospital regularly visit to review patients. This includes staff from maxofacial surgery, plastic surgery, general surgery, medicine, respiratory, orthopaedics, and the Emergency Department.

Things you need to know

Visiting times are from 2.00pm to 4.00pm, and from 6.00pm to 8.00pm. If relatives want to visit at other times, please speak to the nurse in charge.
