Radiology (Xray)

X-ray Departments

We have X-ray departments on the Freeman Hospital, Royal Victoria Infirmary (RVI), Dental Hospital and Walkergate Hospital sites.  These provide a wide range of general and very specialised types of radiological procedures including:

Radiological procedures

  • General X-ray eg chest, abdominal, skeletal X-rays - available at all hospital sites
  • Mammography or other breast imaging - available at the RVI
  • Fluoroscopy eg barium meal or enema - all hospital sites
  • Ultrasound examinations - all hospital sites
  • Computed Tomography (CT) scanning - all hospital sites
  • Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scanning - Freeman Hospital and RVI
  • Diagnostic and therapeutic interventional examinations eg angiography and stent insertion - Freeman and RVI
  • Nuclear Medicine - Freeman Hospital and RVI
  • Positron Emission Tomography (PET) CT scanning - Campus for Ageing and Vitality
  • Bone Mineral Assessment - Freeman Hospital
